How-To Cooking SkillsWhen you’re cooking for a family, you may be tempted to spend a bit of money. It’s easy to get carried away at the grocery store these days, but it’s not necessary.
There are ways to save money, cook a delicious meal, and do so under $20. In fact, there are some recipes that cost only a few dollars, tops.
Here are easy ideas to help you make delicious meals, while stretching your dollars
– Spaghetti and Meat Sauce
The tried and true option you should focus on right away is that of spaghetti with meat sauce. It’s important to find a sauce that has meat in it. If you don’t find that, you can buy pre-made meatballs for around $4.99 and add those to the sauce.
Spaghetti doesn’t cost a great deal, and a box can yield 4 to 6 servings, easily.
All you need is one jar of sauce, one box of spaghetti noodles, and pre-made meatballs. That alone is an easy dinner that has a lot of flavor. Add extras like olives, parmesan cheese, sausage, or any other elements and you have an Italian feast.
– Breakfast for Dinner
Did you know that breakfast for dinner is very inexpensive? You could buy half a dozen eggs, ham, bacon, or sausage for very little. Then you could buy pre-packaged frozen hash browns, or boil potatoes and make home fries without having to spend a lot.
Making eggs is quick; hash browns, proteins, and even toast are inexpensive, dropping the price per plate around $1.50 or less.
For extra options, use your eggs and some bread to make French toast. This is a simple option that can take a 99 cent loaf of bread, a dozen eggs, and perhaps a little cinnamon to all new heights.
– Couscous with Chicken
Couscous is a grain option that takes 5 minutes to cook. You boil water, add a seasoning package, and then put your couscous in the pot, turn off the heat, and wait 5 minutes.
Once done, you have a rice-like grain that you can add elements to. In this case, find a spiced box of couscous, usually only around $2.50, and then top with chicken of your choice. You can buy pre-made, pre-grilled chicken, or you can grill chicken yourself.
You can use kielbasa sausage, beef, or just about any other protein as well. This will cost you way under $20, and will serve a family with new flavors, fast.
